A small fire on the westside of Sydney burned at least 200 homes while crews tried to contain the massive blaze in South Kensington, around 10am on Sunday morning.

Fire crews spent the day battling the blaze on the northern outskirts of Sydney, including a 15ft-tall blaze at Melbourne’s Northern Beaches station, around 7.30am.
A blaze in the northern suburbs of Penrith and Marrickville, reported at 7.15am, also caused a power outage.

One person has been killed and about 30 homes destroyed in fire in Sydney’s outer west.
The fire, which hit an abandoned property off Merced Street, is believed to be about 20 years old.
